Empire of Light (2022) 44% B- EDIT “If a central thesis of Empire Of Light is that 24 frames per second can generate magic, Colman is walking (and crying, and dancing, and smiling) proof of that.” – AV Club Dec 7, 2022 Full Review Violent Night (2022) 74% B EDIT “Although too many anachronistically cheery needle drops during gruesome fight sequences abound, there’s plenty to milk from the juxtaposition of family-friendly Christmas spirit and R-rated action and comedy.” – AV Club Dec 1, 2022 Full Review The Wonder (2022) 85% B+ EDIT “Thanks to a typically mesmerizing leading turn from Florence Pugh, it’s a film that can hold up a mirror to believers and nonbelievers alike as the best stories of faith do.” – AV Club Nov 3, 2022 Full Review The Forgiven (2021) 68% B EDIT “Comes closer to embodying the tragic futility of two irreconcilable cultures attempting understanding, rather than properly deconstructing it.” – AV Club Nov 2, 2022 Full Review The School for Good and Evil (2022) 38% C EDIT “Until someone figures out how to innovate on delivering the shiny, “pew pew!” magic required of action-fantasy YA and its ilk, properties like this one will fail to distinguish themselves.” – AV Club Oct 19, 2022 Full Review God's Creatures (2022) 90% B EDIT “There are no easy answers in this poetic meditation on the symbiosis between mothers and children, and man and nature, adapted by Shane Crowley and based on a story he wrote with Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly.” – AV Club Sep 29, 2022 Full Review God's Country (2022) 88% A- EDIT “Higgins and Newton leave us with a bad taste in our mouths, and that’s a good thing.” – AV Club Sep 13, 2022 Full Review The Invitation (2022) 32% B- EDIT “For audiences who’d rather RSVP to horror-lite moviegoing, The Invitation is a bloody good time—sans the blood.” – AV Club Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Emily the Criminal (2022) 93% B+ EDIT “A spare but riveting thriller about the lengths an individual might go to to fight back against a fucked-up yet all-too-real system.” – AV Club Aug 11, 2022 Full Review Fire Island (2022) 94% B+ EDIT “It doesn’t take long for Fire Island, Joel Kim Booster’s instant-classic Jane Austen riff, to stake its claim in the romantic comedy canon—or rather, defiantly outside of it.” – AV Club May 31, 2022 Full Review
