"The Comeback" tells the story of a B-list sitcom star so desperate to revive her career that she agrees to star in a reality television show called, appropriately enough, "The Comeback." Cameras follow Valerie Cherish's every move as she angles to keep her head above the Hollywood fray, even as she's woefully out of touch with modern show business. And in the madness that is network television, there is nothing braver than a 40-year-old ingenue who's not quite ready to give up the spotlight.

“The Comeback” is a handy distilling mechanism for an industry that can’t help drowning itself in excess. Go to Full Review

Does that all sound funny? Scene for scene, maybe not as laugh-out-loud as earlier seasons, but when the opportunities arrive, everyone brings their A-game. Go to Full Review

I forgave those moments of uncharacteristic ingenuousness because I managed to convince myself they felt valedictory, triumphant -- a few discordant bars within Valerie Cherish's swan song. Go to Full Review

This show absolutely is the rare piece of work that actually benefits from having so much time in between, even if that wasn't the creator's choice. Go to Full Review

“The Comeback” is true to its title. It returns after a long absence not only better, but in its best shape by accepting that change is inevitable even if, like age, it can feel scary. Go to Full Review

This latest (and probably final) season solidifies that legacy, proving that no show is more adept at confronting the uncanny unknowns of Hollywood progression. Go to Full Review

Arnau B @RT27297443 3d A true masterpiece. Lisa Kudrow created an unforgettable character in Friends and yet when you watch The Comeback you see Valerie and she feels as real as a character can be. This show is low-key hilarious and painful to watch at the same time. It's the best portrait of the ever-changing media landscape we've ever gotten. The Comeback started by warning us about the dangers of reality TV — and how it could destroy those hunger for fame. Now in season 3 there's an even larger threat to the creative industry, and perhaps humanity: AI. Again, The Comeback asks all the relevant questions. Is Valerie the least self-aware person on the planet or is she a gritty survivor ready to swallow her pride and carry on? Never quite providing the answer to that is one of the show's biggest accomplishments. Kudrow's comedic chops and perfect timing and in perfect display here. Give this woman her second Emmy already! See more Taj M @RT67826069 3d WHAT HAPPENED? Seasons 1 and 2 were perfect in every way. We might be only two episodes in, but the jokes aren't there. Probably worst of all: they abandoned the mockumentary style. A big part of the show's comedy was knowing Valerie was thinking and feeling things she wouldn't say in front of the camera. Now, she's turned into a superficial version of herself who's the same on and off camera. I blame Michael Patrick King -- And Just Like That was a horrible imitation of SATC; now we're getting a horrible imitation of The Comeback. See more Monica B @Chartreusea 3d What happened? Season 1 and 2 were brilliant. You can’t take a reality based format and just abandon it, it ruins the whole premise. Dissapointed, but maybe everyone just wanted to get together again and do a big send off- okay, have fun, but my last season was 2. It really was a joy to watch the other 2 seasons, some of the best acting on tv I’ve ever seen. See more David H @wolfstar 6d That there’s a third season of this great show is a wonderful surprise! Kudro is doing her thing and is fabulous as always, and the supporting cast and writing are also top-notch. See more Matt W @Matt.J.Wills Mar 24 Lisa Kudrow continues to offer an acting masterclass as Valerie Cherish. Her ability to veer from likeable, vulnerable, hilariously self involved and intoxicatingly optimistic is remarkable. The writing continues to be top tier, skewering the latest trends in the entertainment industry with a razor sharp wit. See more AJ B @DallasMajor212 Mar 23 Only one episode in and, while I had a couple of lol moments, what i was most struck by was the amount of trauma the world has been put through since Valeri's last endeavor... even writing this, I'm kinda processing the pandemic, followed by the strikes, essentially everything being owned by tech companies and private equity, and now AI. The Comeback has always been a crystal ball--and Valerie Cherish a kind of mirror... a really uncomfortable, unflattering mirror. Seeing her running around in this dystopian landscape, still trying to get her next big break, is all of us right now whether we want to admit it or not. That's said with so much love btw.
