Patrick Bromley

Tomatometer-approved critic
Biography:

I have been reviewing films since 2004, when I started as a critic with DVD Verdict. I launched my own site, fthismovie.com, in 2010, which publishes reviews, retrospective pieces, and a weekly podcast all in the service of a love of film despite its irreverent name. In addition to writing for Blumhouse.com (when that was a thing), I am a regular contributor to genre sites Daily Dead and Bloody Disgusting, where I have covered film festivals and champion a love of horror movies. Watching movies, writing about movies, and hopefully spreading a passion and knowledge of film is my love. I am a member of both the Chicago Film Critics Association and the Online Film Critics Society as well.

Untitled Home Invasion Romance (2025) 80% EDIT “If this is what Biggs does when no one’s expecting much, it’s worth being curious about what he does next. I know I am.” – F This Movie! Jan 30, 2026 Full Review House II: The Second Story (1987) 17% EDIT “Between the Old West stuff and the prehistoric stuff and the Aztec stuff and a slimy-slash-adorable caterpillar dog, there's a lot going on in House II, but very little connects with me the way stuff does in the Steve Miner film. ” – F This Movie! Jan 30, 2026 Full Review House (1985) 49% EDIT “It is low-budget but never schlocky, tremendous fun but rarely outright silly. It's a movie of great imagination but with enough of a grounded emotional center to not be totally ephemeral.” – F This Movie! Jan 30, 2026 Full Review Piranha II: The Spawning (1981) 4% EDIT “I have heard for years about what a calamity Piranha II is, but had never actually seen it prior to this review, and while I wouldn’t count it among the biggest turkeys of all time, it’s a pretty big mess. ” – Daily Dead Dec 2, 2025 Full Review Darkman III: Die Darkman Die (1996) 39% EDIT “It’s a pretty pale substitute for the original thing.” – Daily Dead Aug 24, 2025 Full Review Darkman II: The Return of Durant (1995) 48% EDIT “Darkman II is mostly just silly. Fun, but silly.” – Daily Dead Aug 24, 2025 Full Review The Return of the Living Dead (1985) 71% 4/5 EDIT “A classic of the zombie genre and a truly influential horror comedy, The Return of the Living Dead does the unthinkable: it spins off George Romero’s untouchable trilogy and comes out with something wholly original and endlessly entertaining.” – Daily Dead Aug 6, 2025 Full Review Explorers (1985) 49% EDIT “Explorers begins as one of Dante’s best films, and ends as one of his weakest. ” – F This Movie! Jul 8, 2025 Full Review Dirty Work (1998) 21% EDIT “Dirty Work is a success...but only half a success, because while it's a funnier movie than it gets credit for being, it's still not a very good movie.” – F This Movie! May 14, 2025 Full Review C.H.U.D. II (1989) 1.5/5 EDIT “While Bud the CHUD disappoints as a comedy, rest assured that it’s equally disappointing as a horror movie.” – Daily Dead May 10, 2025 Full Review At Long Last Love (1975) 22% EDIT “I do not often say this, but the film is worth checking out for its production design alone.” – F This Movie! Mar 15, 2025 Full Review Millers in Marriage (2024) 53% EDIT “Millers in Marriage isn't just a good Ed Burns movie; it's a reminder that we're lucky to have Ed Burns making movies at all.” – F This Movie! Feb 25, 2025 Full Review C.H.U.D. (1984) 43% 3/5 EDIT “It’s part impassioned political statement, part gory monster movie, part 42nd Street exploitation trash, all elevated by good actors and a total commitment to the premise.” – Daily Dead Jan 25, 2025 Full Review Suitable Flesh (2023) 84% EDIT “When one of my favorite filmmakers channels some of my other favorite filmmakers and makes a deeply personal movie inside of a gory, horny horror film, I'm probably going to love it. I love Suitable Flesh.” – F This Movie! Jan 10, 2024 Full Review The Dirties (2013) 83% EDIT “It begins as a comedy, gets us to love and identify with its characters, but slowly marches towards horror and tragedy with a sad inevitability. ” – F This Movie! May 26, 2023 Full Review Poor Agnes (2017) 70% 3/5 EDIT “Burke’s performance and the bizarrely evolving relationship between her and her captive make Poor Agnes a fascinating take on the serial killer drama.” – Bloody Disgusting Feb 6, 2023 Full Review Terrifier 2 (2022) 87% EDIT “The graphic kills and insane practical gore effects (created by Leone himself) are what gave the first film its reputation, and while I can't say that mean-spirited violence is why I watch horror, there's also no denying Leone's gift for creating carnage.” – F This Movie! Oct 29, 2022 Full Review The Sadness (2021) 88% EDIT “A well-made movie I kind of hope to never see again.” – F This Movie! Aug 30, 2021 Full Review Death Rider in the House of Vampires (2021) EDIT “Has all the charm of Verotika, and nearly all of its flaws, too.” – Bloody Disgusting Aug 29, 2021 Full Review King Knight (2021) 76% EDIT “A sweet and gentle movie about makeshift families and people trying to do their best.” – F This Movie! Aug 11, 2021 Full Review Wrath of Man (2021) 68% EDIT “Guy Ritchie's new best movie.” – F This Movie! May 10, 2021 Full Review Jakob's Wife (2021) 85% EDIT “This is a horror comedy that says so many things about so many things about relationships, marriage, and gender politics, but it's also a blood-soaked blast of fun.” – F This Movie! Apr 5, 2021 Full Review Offseason (2021) 66% EDIT “Those of us who are able to dial into its wavelength and who can dig a good supernatural seaside tale are going to be rewarded.” – F This Movie! Mar 22, 2021 Full Review Introducing, Selma Blair (2021) 100% EDIT “Powerful, heartbreaking, and ultimately inspiring.” – F This Movie! Mar 22, 2021 Full Review Jiu Jitsu (2020) 27% EDIT “Entertainingly insane and insanely entertaining, Jiu Jitsu is bonkers action cinema of the highest order.” – F This Movie! Nov 18, 2020 Full Review
