Wicked: For Good (2025) Aprillé Morris Glinda doesn't need magic to be powerful or to do good. Giving her literal magic powers undercuts the entire point of her character—that she has all the tools necessary to fight injustice but chooses not to use them until it's too late.

Sinners (2025) Aprillé Morris Wunmi Mosaku's Annie deserves to be in every awards conversation—a performance that's nuanced, layered, and finds moments of lightness and humor even in the midst of profound grief

A Minecraft Movie (2025) Aprillé Morris Jack Black enthusiastically explaining how to craft a pickaxe is enough. Sometimes Jason Momoa getting chased by a creeper while wearing a pink leather jacket is cinema

Wicked (2024) Aprillé Morris This is the performance of Erivo's career, and it should sweep every award imaginable. When she defies gravity, holding that final note like she's holding the whole world, it's transcendent.

The Fire Inside (2024) Aprillé Morris Through Detroit native Ryan Destiny's powerhouse performance, the film captures not just the physical demands of boxing, but the emotional weight of carrying a community's hopes on your back.

Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) M.X. Katyayani With one of the shortest runtimes we’ve seen from Marvel in a while at only 119 mins, the much-awaited Thor: Love and Thunder is the definition of here for a good time, not a long time!

The Gray Man (2022) M.X. Katyayani We begin a 129 min journey jam-packed with quippy retorts, gratuitous violence and a hail of bullets that leap you chuckling and wiping tears of laughter from your eyes. That being said, The Gray Man is entirely devoid of substance.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) M.X. Katyayani Where No Way Home and Moon Knight tackle similar themes and raise the bar for other Marvel titles, Multiverse of Madness brings back memories of Game of Thrones’ disastrous final season.

Framing Agnes (2022) M.X. Katyayani Having seen all the Trans 101 required material, I went into Framing Agnes expecting honesty, emotions and a dash of trauma. Still, nothing prepared me for what happened in the ensuing 75 mins.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) M.X. Katyayani Unlike in the anime, this version of the Major is more of a renegade than a leader and cares far more about herself than her teammates. She spends a large chunk of the movie pitying herself.

Morbius (2022) M.X. Katyayani Rumours circulating about Morbius made me apprehensive about attending the press screening, to begin with. But I went into it hoping for better. Unfortunately, the movie ended up being even worse than the rumours led me to believe.

Candyman (2021) Aprillé Morris At its core, Candyman (2021) attempts to explore how Black trauma is intergenerational. Exploring how the atrocities inflicted on our ancestors years prior still affect our lives today.

Halloween Kills (2021) Aprillé Morris Halloween Kills attempt at addressing mob rule and the dangers it poses doesn’t mesh in a movie about an unstoppable killer.

The System (2022) Aprillé Morris Most of us know that the prison system is nothing more than modern-day slavery. The cast of The System seeks to shine a light on prisons in this new film.
