The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) David Hogan Fantastic Four: First Steps is a fun film, full of comic-accurate nonsense and retro-futuristic visuals mixed with a cast that all play their roles really well.

4/5
Thunderbolts* (2025) David Hogan Thunderbolts was a fun MCU entry, full of good action and banter, but with a solid heart at the centre of the story.

4/5
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) David Hogan Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a fun family film full of some good gags, great action and thankfully a dramatic decrease in poorly judged humour with its live action cast.

3/5
Captain America: Brave New World (2025) David Hogan “Captain America: Brave New World” is ironically the furthest thing from brave or new as it wheels out familiar MCU tropes that barely pin all the separate action set pieces together, and then delivers a flat and somewhat confusing finale to boot.

4/5
Dragon Ball DAIMA (2024) David Hogan DAIMA was a fun exercise in Toriyama flexing his more child-like adventurous side, but as we got closer to the end that melted away, descending into an admittedly well animated fight-fest, just like the original Manga this was created to celebrate.

4/5
Alien: Romulus (2024) David Hogan Alien: Romulus is something of a greatest hits mixtape of a movie, taking some great set-pieces, visual iconography and character tropes from the original four movies and meshing them together in a very enjoyable, if not predictable, two-ish hours.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) David Hogan Deadpool & Wolverine is less a long string of crass gags and bloody gore and more a celebration of the FOX era of Marvel films, mixed with amusing set pieces and lots of trademark fourth wall breaking gags. Not for everyone, but I enjoyed it!

5/5
Die Hard With a Vengeance (1995) David Hogan Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson are a fantastic double act and only add to the fun action scenes. Easily the second best Die Hard film and one of the best action films full stop.

5/5
Dune (2021) David Hogan Dune’s first half lived up to the hype as a mix of political intrigue, sci-fi storytelling and a large selection of really interesting characters, all with great visuals and sound design to match.

3/5
The Marvels (2023) David Hogan The Marvels was a perfectly fine hour and forty-ish minutes, with some fun character interaction and some decent superhero action, the only issue is it just didn’t have the drive or gravitas to really pull me in. Not bad, but not great either.

3/5
Mobile Suit Gundam 00: A Wakening of the Trailblazer (2010) David Hogan Does a good job of putting a full stop at the end of the 00 universe and has some fun moments but it also has an awful lot of a space shootouts with little to no dialogue to break it up, making it quite hard-going after a while, especially the finale.

4/5
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) David Hogan Ignoring the terrible wedding scenes the film has some fun set pieces, good CG and good performances all round, with Jim Carrey once again stealing the show. Throw in some fun game references for me to point at and I really enjoyed my time with the film.

4/5
Resident Evil: Death Island (2023) David Hogan Resident Evil: Death Island is a great 90 minutes if you’re a lifelong fan of the Resi game franchise like myself but casual or non-fans will find little to enjoy here beyond some good CG work and a few action scenes to pass the time.

4/5
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) David Hogan While not as engaging or fresh as the first two films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 still had the usual James Gunn combination of dazzling CG environments, enjoyable action and great dialogue, so it was still a fun way to spend an evening.

3/5
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) David Hogan Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City wasn’t too bad an experience, but after it being hyped up as being closer to the games to see Wesker and Leon so badly butchered hurt even more than it did in the barely Resident Evil-like Anderson films.

2/5
Dynasty Warriors (2021) David Hogan Dynasty Warriors is a bit of a mess. While some moments are fun and I did enjoy the extra lore nods the film is poorly paced on top of everything else and has a rather flat finale. Best avoided, sadly…

2/5
Mortal Kombat (2021) David Hogan Mortal Kombat commits the cardinal sin of being boring, whereas at least the first MK film was so cheesy it was funny, like the source material itself. This attempt at a “realistic” take on the MK lore fails spectacularly.

3/5
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (2023) David Hogan While it had some pleasing visuals and some strong performances from Paul Rudd and others Quantumania still managed to fall flat. It’s not a bad film, it’s not a good film, it’s firmly in the extremely mundane middle…

2/5
Monster Hunter (2020) David Hogan Paul W.S. Anderson once again takes a CAPCOM franchise and instead of adapting the source material faithfully in any way he just makes sure his wife looks as cool as possible and fills in the rest with light lore and visual nods. I’d avoid this one.

3/5
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) David Hogan lack Panther: Wakanda Forever has the usual MCU mix of humour and fun action scenes but it's severely lacking a charismatic lead performer, and some of the lazy writing during the final third was frankly embarrassing. One of the weaker MCU efforts.

4/5
Die Hard 2 (1990) David Hogan Plays it very safe with the plot by copying a lot of what made the first work but sadly the villains of the piece are far, far less interesting. It does have some fun scenes and Bruce Willis is still on fine form so still worth a watch though...

5/5
Die Hard (1988) David Hogan To say Die Hard still holds up is an understatement: charismatic protagonist and antagonist, great action set pieces, well paced and a top class finale. It’s no wonder so many other films and TV series continue to “do a Die Hard”, it’s still hard to top.

4/5
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) David Hogan Overall a fun time but not the big blockbuster some might be expecting and certainly not recommended if you didn’t find Ragnarok very funny…

3/5
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) David Hogan Lacks the heart of the MCU’s previous multiversal cross-over movie, but it does have some stunning imagery plus Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen do a lot to hold your attention even when the plot doesn’t really exist to do so otherwise.

4/5
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) David Hogan Another fine and heartfelt performance by Tom Holland and some really fun appearances from past Spider-Man film characters cover for a script that was clearly rushed and lacking in any solid direction.

2/5
The Matrix Resurrections (2021) David Hogan Very much a Monkeys Paw effort. We got a fourth Matrix film but it was seemingly made with a gun to everyones head and director and actors made sure to phone it in as much as possible as a result.

Eternals (2021) David Hogan Eternals is a really hard one to rate. Thinking about it although I enjoyed a lot more of it than I didn't I don't know if I'll ever feel like watching it again...

3/5
The Matrix Revolutions (2003) David Hogan There are things to like in the opening moments and the final showdown but the rest is either dull or visually unappealing CG bullet-fest scenes... or both, I guess.

4/5
The Matrix Reloaded (2003) David Hogan While not the all-guns-blazing 5-out-of-5 its predecessor was I still find The Matrix Reloaded a fun film, full of a fun sci-fi plot and plenty of crazy action sequences.

5/5
The Matrix (1999) David Hogan While certain aspects have now lost their shine, either due to outdated CG or just being parodied so damn much, they can't take away from the original's pull, even in 2021.

No Time to Die (2021) David Hogan I would happily watch it again but not if I was in the mood to watch a Bond film as No Time To Die does not scratch that particular itch...

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2004) David Hogan A fun follow up to the original game that has some good fight scenes but the animation and CG just aren't up to much in 2021. It's unapproachable to non-fans, for the record!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) David Hogan Shang-Chi is full of some great martial arts action and fun CG spectacle while being free of the MCU uninteresting villain curse that these origin movies often suffer from...

Ghost in the Shell (1995) David Hogan Top notch animation, soundtrack and a story full of action and thought provoking ideas, this 90 minute film from 1995 is still just as good now as it was then. A must watch.

5/5
Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train (2020) David Hogan Providing some more light-hearted and dramatic moments to blend with the jaw-dropping Ufotable fight scenes, Mugen Train is a great way to spend two hours.

3/5
The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974) David Hogan A good laugh if you're looking for a cheesy 70s "kung fu film" that mixes in vampires and Peter Cushing's Van Helsing, but that's a very specific thing to be looking for...

The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973) David Hogan It has one or two moments but overall it's not very exciting to watch and as the final Christopher Lee Dracula film it's a bit of a let down...

3/5
Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972) David Hogan Some fun moments, especially the fights between the two Van Helsings and Dracula, but sadly a lot of middle is a bit meh, and the opening 70s shot is near-torturous...

Scars of Dracula (1970) David Hogan Christopher Lee is back on form when it comes to actually getting to act... a bit. Definitely one of the better offerings anyway, so long as you're in the right mood.

Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970) David Hogan Well, it was hard to actually like any characters, it wasn't very interesting and the ending was pants. Oh well, what is this, film number 5? Not a bad run so far then...

Dracula Has Risen From the Grave (1968) David Hogan Dracula Has Risen From The Grave not only has a great title but it was also a fun film. Still has the B movie charm going for it to cover some of the suspect acting as well.

Dracula, Prince of Darkness (1966) David Hogan If all your after is a cliché B horror movie then at least the movie is a good example as it's an entertaining 80-odd minutes, just not one that's worth shouting about...

The Brides of Dracula (1960) David Hogan Peter Cushing's Van Helsing is once again a commanding presence and carries the film on his back. A really enjoyable cheesy horror film.

5/5
Horror of Dracula (1958) David Hogan The Hammer Dracula is every bit the classic now as it was back in the 50s and is still the version I mentally refer back to when I see a reference to the classic tale.

Spectre (2015) David Hogan Spectre felt like loads of small ideas barely sewn together and a hasty attempt to make some sort of "ultimate villain" that doesn't work at all. Better than QoS at least...

4/5
Skyfall (2012) David Hogan I do enjoy most of Skyfall, it has some great set pieces and a charismatic villain but some pacing issues hold it back for me. Still better than Quantum of Solace at least!

2/5
Quantum of Solace (2008) David Hogan Starts off alright but slowly becomes less and less interesting until it suddenly ends, plus the villain is more "mildly annoying prick" than Bond's big enemy...

Casino Royale (2006) David Hogan Casino Royale is right up there with my favourite films, let alone Bond films. Well paced, well shot, well acted and lots of fun and clever nods to past Bond-isms. Top marks.

3/5
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf (2021) David Hogan Some interesting backstory but it's also very plain and full of generic characters. Not a bad way to spend an hour and a half, but I doubt I'll be watching it again.

Black Widow (2021) David Hogan The main thing to take away from the film is "fun action sequences", if you're looking for something deeper or more impactful on the MCU timeline then you won't find it here...
