The Muppets have taken to the high seas, and Jolly Roger was never jollier. Borrowing only slightly more than the title from the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, Kermit and Co. turn a couple of hours at the movies into a day at the beach.

You may not be able to squeeze brine out of a stone, but you can, apparently, squeeze those cuddly Muppets till a bit more treasure trickles out. As much as we love them, it's tough watching inanimate objects cruelly exploited.

Despite it being a very loose adaptation, "Muppet Treasure Island" is still one of, if not the best theatrical version of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson tale. While having a larger focus on comedy compared to its predecessor "The Muppet Christmas Carol", it is still just as emotionally resonant. The film is directed by Brian Henson, who once again proves his brilliance in gloriously Muppefying literature. Long John Silver is played by Tim Curry, which is perhaps one of the greatest casting choices ever made. The soundtrack is well suited to the comedic high-seas style of the film while simultaneously remaining extremely moving ("Love Led Us Here" is among the most beautiful love songs I have ever heard). Overall, the Muppets deliver yet again with an excellent introduction to Robert Louis Stevenson's work.
