Young Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) is haunted by a dark secret: he is visited by ghosts. Cole is frightened by visitations from those with unresolved problems who appear from the shadows. You leave slightly asquirm. You know it will linger. It becomes a clammy, chilly movie building toward a revelation that you cannot predict. As I say: I cannot tell you. You'd hate me if I did. See more Carlos H @carloshenriquec 20 hrs ago Without a doubt, it is one of the best horror movies ever made—yes—but it is also a moving film about family, friendship, and trust. Upon my second viewing (the first was a long time ago, when I was younger), I was far more deeply moved by the relationship between Malcolm and Cole and the way it evolves. Cole’s relationship with his mother also yields very touching scenes, especially at the end when he finally decides to open up to her and reveal his secret (it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it again). We see masterful performances from Toni Collette and Haley J. Osment here; the sheer talent displayed by such a young boy at the time is staggering. Bruce Willis also delivers a deeply emotional performance—in my opinion, one of his best. And what can be said about that ending? If any film elevated the concept of the "plot twist," this was the one. Shyamalan’s direction is precise and skillful; The Sixth Sense is one of the best films of his career—if not the very best.
